Who looks after your cat?

A real person, with real experience

When you hire someone to come into your home and look after your cat, you're not hiring a company — you're hiring me. I'm Eva, the face and hands behind Gaticidad.

I live in Esplugues de Llobregat and since 2019 I've been a professional in-home cat caregiver. I know every municipality in the area, every street with its parking quirks, and above all I know lots of cats. More than 50 families have trusted me with their cats over the years, and many of them already recognise me by smell before I open the door.

My story

How I got here

From cat lover to professional catsitter

I've always lived with cats. As a child at my grandparents' house, later in my own home. But the leap into making it a profession came from a personal experience: when I had to leave my cat behind for a month on a long trip, I couldn't find anyone I trusted to come into the house. Cat boarding felt stressful, and the pet-sitting apps were full of people with no specific cat training.

I started looking after neighbours' cats, then friends-of-friends, then clients of a vet friend. Demand grew organically — the families who tried me recommended me to other families. In 2020 I decided to professionalise the service: invoicing, insurance, ongoing training, website.

Today Gaticidad is my full-time job. I don't have a side gig. That means I'm available, I can plan the visits well, I keep training every year, and above all, I can care for each cat as if they were my own.

Why "positive, force-free"

My work philosophy comes down to one sentence: cats aren't dogs — they don't respond to dominance, they respond to respect and calm. That's why I always work in a positive, force-free way.

That means I never force a cat to do something they don't want to. If they're scared, I sit nearby without touching them, talk in a soft voice, and let them smell my hand. When they're ready, they come to me. Sometimes it takes 5 minutes, sometimes 3 visits. But it always works better than forcing things.

Working positively also means respecting the cat's routine: the brand of their food, their favourite hiding spots, how they communicate. No two cats are the same, and getting to know each one is part of the job.

Training

What I've learned (and keep learning)

2018

Initial feline care course

First formal course on handling and caring for domestic cats. The foundation for doing this professionally.

2019

Gaticidad begins

First families, first visits. I learn day by day from every cat and every family. I start taking training seriously.

2020

Low-stress cat handling

Specialised course in low-stress handling: techniques to keep the cat calm during care, without forceps or forced restraint.

2021

Applied feline behaviour

Training in feline ethology: how to read the cat's signals, what they tell us with their posture, vocalisations and markings.

2022

Feline medication

Hands-on course with a collaborating vet: oral medication, subcutaneous injections (insulin), drops, basic wound care.

2023+

Continuous training

Every year I attend seminars and courses on animal welfare, feline behaviour and new developments in cat care. Training never ends.

Specialisations

Beyond the basics, some situations call for specific experience and training. These are the ones I'm most often asked about.

Oral and injectable medication

Subcutaneous insulin for diabetic cats, pills, syrups, drops, ointments. I learn the technique with you and your vet during the pre-visit.

Senior cats

Care for older cats with reduced mobility, special needs or disorientation. Extra patience and attention to detail.

Shy or fearful cats

Positive, force-free work to slowly earn their trust. No forcing, respecting their pace until the cat sets the next step.

Multi-cat households

Homes with several cats: I organise the visit so that each one gets attention and food without conflict.

Cats during a move

Support through the whole moving process: I keep their routine while everything around them changes.

Bereavement and recovery

Calm, present visits for cats who have lost a companion or are recovering from surgery or illness.

What I do on each visit

A standard visit covers everything your cat needs. Here's exactly what I do on each one.

Feeding and water changes in the amount and schedule you set
Full litter-box cleaning with sand replacement if needed
Active play adapted to each cat's character (or quiet company if they prefer)
Oral, subcutaneous injectable, drops and ointment medication
General wellbeing check at every visit (eyes, coat, behaviour)
Photo reports and short notes at the end of every visit

Long term

Whole summer, 3 months

A family who goes to their coastal house every summer. Daily 50–60 minute visits with the same protocol: food, water, litter box, play, photos. Their cat Loki already waits for me at the door on 1 July.

Diabetes

Insulin-dependent diabetic cat

Bruno needs 2 insulin injections a day. I learned the technique with his family and the vet. We've been on his treatment for 2 years, perfect control and zero scares.

Recovery

Complicated post-surgery

A cat that needed 3 visits a day for 2 weeks after surgery. Oral medication, basic wound care, monitoring the wound, lots of love. Smooth recovery.

Multi-cat

5 cats with very different personalities

A home with 5 cats, two of them newly adopted and not yet introduced. I coordinated the visits so each kept their own space and routine, without forcing any relationships.

Bereavement

Cat who lost his companion

After the senior cat passed away, the younger one was very lost. Calm presence visits without forcing interaction, letting him smell familiar things, talking to him. He was back in his routine within 3 weeks.

Emergency

Cat escaped during my visit

On a visit I found the cat had escaped through a poorly closed window. I coordinated the search with the family, we found him within 2 hours. Now I check every window before I leave.

Who is Eva, the catsitter from Gaticidad?

Eva Marín is the person behind Gaticidad. A professional in-home cat caregiver since 2019, she works in Barcelona and Baix Llobregat. She specialises in positive, force-free work, feline medication, and handling cats with special needs.

How many years of experience does she have with cats?

I've been caring for cats professionally at home for more than 7 years. Before going full-time, I already worked with shelters and looked after friends' cats, so the total experience with felines is more than 10 years.

Does she have specific training in feline behaviour?

Yes. I'm trained in low-stress cat handling, feline behaviour applied to day-to-day care, and oral and injectable medication. I keep up with courses and seminars on animal welfare every year.

Why do you say you work "in a positive way"?

Because I never force a cat to do something they don't want to. I earn their trust with patience: I sit next to them, talk softly, let them smell my hand, and when they're ready, they come to me. I respect their space, pace and limits. Cats aren't dogs: they don't respond to dominance, they respond to respect and calm.

How many families do you serve?

I currently serve more than 50 regular families in Barcelona and Baix Llobregat, plus families who book occasionally for holidays or special situations. That's why it's sometimes necessary to book in advance, especially in summer and at Christmas.

Do you work alone or do you have a team?

I work alone day to day. For peak periods (Christmas, summer) I have a network of trusted catsitters with whom I share training and ways of working. If at some point I can't cover your booking myself, I'll suggest one of them. The quality and care are the same.

What about privacy for my cat's photos?

The photos I send you on WhatsApp are private and personal; they are not published anywhere without your explicit permission. If I want to use a photo on the website or social media, I show it to you first and only use it if you say yes. Some families prefer that I don't use any photos, and that's always respected.

Do you have public liability insurance?

Yes — I hold public liability insurance that covers any incident during a visit. I can show you the policy at the pre-visit if you want. All keys and access details are handled with a security protocol.
